Make a Positive Change This 2015- Take Control of Your Vein Health

The start to a New Year is a very symbolic time in our lives. It represents an opportunity of fresh beginnings, accomplished through our positive lifestyle changes. For most, the hope is that these efforts will lead to an even healthier and happier year than the one before.

This 2015, we encourage you to embrace this time of change and do something that will truly better yourself both inside and out. If you have been suffering from the many discomforts of spider or varicose veins, let this be the year that you finally do something about it.

If vein disease is left unmanaged, it can lead to more critical ailments such as blood clots. For this reason, it is imperative to have your veins screened as early as possible.

All it takes is 30 minutes of physical fitness a day to keep your body (and your veins) in great shape. Engage in low impact cardio exercises such as walking, swimming, or biking.

Incorporate Balance

Prolonged sitting or standing can lead to the swelling of your veins. Avoid this by finding balance between these two activities. If you work on a computer, be sure to walk and stretch your legs every chance you get. If you are on your feet for an extended period of time, sit and put them up in between doing so. Remember, just like most things in life, it’s all about balance!

Adopt a Nutritious Diet
 
Maintaining a healthy weight can help you avoid some of the painful symptoms associated with spider and varicose veins. An excellent way to do so is by eating a low-fat wholesome diet.

Dress for Success

Fully commit yourself to wearing compression garments. They help increase positive blood flow in your legs, which in return reduces swelling. Also, leave high-heeled shoes for special occasions only, as they have a negative effect on blood circulation.

Elevate your Legs
It is very important to elevate your legs as regularly as possible. By doing so, you help the blood flow back out of your legs, which then relieves the pressure. Especially after a long day this is a very soothing technique!
